8/17/14 - Where'd my favorite 3D printing store go? August 16 2014
Hi folks,
If you stopped by our store this past week you probably noticed something: It's gone. So, what happened? To explain here's a quick bit of Blu-Bin history:
September, 2012: Blu-Bin moves from the back of my car into a lovely little store in Poultney, Vermont. The shop has modest beginnings with only 1 printer, two colors, no items in the catalog and a non-existent website.
August, 2013: Blu-Bin closes that lovely little store and opens a new store on Church Street in Burlington, Vermont. The shop has grown its operations with 5 printers, twenty colors, over 1,000 items in the catalog but with a website that showed zero of them and really didn't say much about the company.
August, 2014: Blu-Bin closes the Church Street location and begins plans for the next step in its evolution with multiple locations, robust printers printing a wide variety of colors and materials, and a strong website that shows off the staggering amount of items that Blu-Bin has amassed in its catalog over the past year (currently over 2200).
In other words, its time for our annual migration.
So why close our store? Because we are still very much a start-up company, and these periodic breaks are vital to our process of cracking open our business model, looking inside, and seeing how we can fine-tune so we can be the best possible 3D printing shop. We've learned a LOT over the past year, and there's much to be done under the hood.
Don't worry, we will be back soon, and in the mean time you can always request our services through the contact form. We also haven't forgotten about any outstanding orders we have from the old shop. Here's a delivery we made yesterday to Bob "Hoff" Hoffman, the famous collector of harmonica cases.
We made two cases for him, one as a template that could be painted on (the yellow one in the photo) and the other from a 3D scan of Hoff playing harmonica. This second one is cool not only because it opens up to hold a harmonica, but also because we made it from clear plastic that makes the print look like one of Burlington's famous ice sculptures.
But yes, to answer your original pondering: The Church Street location is closed and we are online only for the next month or so, but then we'll be back, better than ever.
